What Should Be Included in an Electrical Project Closeout Package?
November 1, 2026
An electrical project is not fully closed when the tools are packed up. A clear closeout package gives the owner, property manager, inspector, and future electrician a reliable record of what was installed and approved.
1. Final inspection and permit records
Keep the permit number, final inspection result, signed permit card, and any correction notices together. If utility approval or a meter release was required, include that confirmation too.
2. Updated panel schedules and labels
Every new or changed circuit should be identified clearly. Accurate panel directories save time during service calls and help occupants shut off the correct circuit in an emergency.
3. Equipment information
Record manufacturer names, model numbers, ratings, and warranty details for panels, breakers, disconnects, EV charging equipment, lighting controls, and other installed devices. Photos of equipment labels are useful when parts are needed later.
4. Test and installation documentation
Depending on the job, the file may include torque records, load calculations, grounding and bonding checks, commissioning results, and photographs taken before walls or equipment covers were closed.
5. Final scope, invoice, and maintenance notes
The owner should have a final invoice that matches the completed scope, including approved changes. Add practical maintenance notes, recommended inspection intervals, and any items that remain outside the completed contract.
Why closeout records matter
Good documentation makes future troubleshooting faster, supports warranty claims, helps with property sales and insurance questions, and reduces confusion when another contractor works on the system.
